Jon Hall receives Academic All-American of the Year from ESPN the Magazine

Five members of the men’s soccer team were honored this week by ESPN The Magazine with the release of its annual CoSIDA All-Academic teams. Junior defender and co-captain Jonathan Hall was named the College Division Academic All-American of the Year, the highest honor awarded by the committee. Hall was one of 11 men’s soccer players named All-Academic in the college division, with a major in business administration and a 4.0 GPA, making him eligible for the prestigious award.

Hall was recognized for his exceptional combination of academic and athletic excellence and was chosen out of a talented group of athletes whose combined average GPA was 3.89. This season, Hall started all 19 games the Tartans played, anchoring a defense that recorded 10 shutouts and a goal against average of .78 per game.

Hall helped the Tartans earn their first chance in three seasons to compete in the NCAA tournament and finish with a 15–3–1 record. Although this is his first appearance on the All-Academic team, the Tartan co-captain has previously been named to both the All-University Athletic Association and All-Mid-Atlantic regional teams.

Juniors Ryan Browne, Ricky Griffin, Keith Haselhoff, and Austin Good were named to the ESPN The Magazine’s All-Academic Second Team for their outstanding academic records and athletic success this season. Browne and Griffin are business administration majors with 3.95 and 3.8 GPAs, respectively. Haselhoff studies mechanical engineering with a 3.89 GPA while Good is a chemical and biomedical engineering double major with a 4.0 GPA.

Carnegie Mellon had the most players overall honored out of any team in the college division, giving the Tartan soccer program a much deserved nod of respect for their tremendous success this past season under head coach Arron Lujan.
