Volleyball defeats Geneva College 3–0 at home

The Carnegie Mellon volleyball team prepared for its second University Athletic Association (UAA) round robin, coming up this weekend, with a home match versus Geneva College Thursday.

The Tartans came away with a 3–0 victory with game scores of 25–22, 25–19, and 25–23. After the team’s slow start to the season, the Tartans have improved their record to 14–11 overall and 2–1 in the UAA.

The 3–0 score has been a common score for the Tartans this season. “We have been working together as a team more, and we have really been working on all of the little things that it takes to [beat] teams in three games,” said sophomore Caroline Size.

Junior Jessica Brackin and sophomores Size and Aislinn McCloskey led the Carnegie Mellon side with eight kills each, while senior Chisom Amaechi added seven.
Sophomore Cameron Griffin recorded 13 digs and junior Cara Fatigati added seven. As usual, junior Sam Carter led the team with 30 assists.
In the team’s victory over Geneva, Carnegie Mellon recorded a total 45 kills and had a kill percentage of .310, the Tartans’ highest of the season. The team also tallied five service aces and five blocks.

Carnegie Mellon will head to Brandeis University this upcoming weekend for the second UAA round robin, in which the team will face Brandeis University and New York University with game times set for 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Friday, and take on Emory University and the University of Chicago with game times set for 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
